Senior Engineer, CNC Technical Solutions

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under limited supervision, the Senior Engineer, CNC Technical Solutions provides advanced technical expertise and application support for Mitsubishi Electric CNC products and related automation solutions. This role serves as a key technical resource for internal teams, channel partners, and end-user customers, with a strong emphasis on CNC system setup, parameter optimization, hardware integration, servo/spindle tuning, and PLC development.

This position contributes to technical problem resolution, application development, and training initiatives while maintaining deep technical knowledge of Mitsubishi CNC platforms and supporting technologies. This role does not have supervisory responsibilities.

The essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to the following:

Advanced Technical Support & Application Engineering

  • Provide advanced technical support on Mitsubishi CNC systems to internal stakeholders, machine tool builders, dealers, and end-users via phone, email, remote access, and on-site visits.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) for Mitsubishi CNC products, including:
    • System setup and commissioning
    • CNC parameter configuration and optimization
    • CNC hardware architecture and troubleshooting
    • Servo and spindle tuning and performance optimization
    • PLC creation, modification, and debugging (CNC-integrated PLCs)
  • Support CNC programming and application development, including:
    • Simple G-code programming support
    • Macro programming and customization
  • Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues across CNC, servo, spindle, and control systems.
  • Provide application consulting to improve machine performance, cycle time, and reliability.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, troubleshooting guides, and application notes that support customer issue resolution and internal knowledge sharing.
  • Travel as required to customer sites and Mitsubishi Electric facilities (including Japan) for training and technical collaboration.
  • Maintain current, in-depth product knowledge through hands-on testing, training, and self-study.

Cross-Platform Support & Collaboration

  • Provide working-level support for related Mitsubishi Electric automation products, including:
    • PLCs (MELSEC platforms)
    • GOT HMIs
    • Robots
    • Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
  • Collaborate with Product Management, Marketing, and Engineering teams to support product improvements and customer solutions.
  • Assist in evaluating new products, features, and system integrations.

Training, Documentation & Reporting

  • Develop and deliver technical training for internal teams, channel partners, and customers.
  • Support technical knowledge sharing through training materials, videos, and other designated resources.
  • Document support cases, solutions, and activity tracking using Salesforce, Monday.com, or other designated systems.
  • Travel approximately 25–35% travel for customer support, training, and factory collaboration (Americas, Europe, Japan).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 7+ years of experience with CNC systems and industrial automation
  • Strong technical expertise in Mitsubishi CNC systems, including:
    • Setup and commissioning
    • Parameter configuration
    • CNC hardware and architecture
    • Servo and spindle tuning
    • CNC-integrated PLC systems
  • Working knowledge of:
    • G-code programming
    • CNC macro programming
  • Experience with industrial automation systems, including PLCs, HMIs, robots, and drives
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills for complex system issues
  • Strong written, technical, and customer-facing communication skills
  • Ability to operate independently and as part of a cross-functional team
  • Broader experience with Mitsubishi Electric automation products (PLC, GOT, Robot, VFD)
  • Experience with machine tool builders (MTBs) and CNC applications
  • Knowledge of industrial networks and system integration
  • Experience with CRM and case management tools (e.g., Salesforce)

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $85,600/yr and $117,700/yr; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including commissions based on achieving individual performance and/or sales metrics, incentive compensation and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these additional compensation and benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.

If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
