Healthcare Innovation Intern

Location: Cypress, CA

POSITION SUMMARY:

We are looking for a highly motivated, entrepreneurial intern to support MELIC's healthcare innovation initiatives. This 12 week internship will focus on customer discovery, market research, and partnership exploration to identify high-impact opportunities in healthcare technology. The ideal candidate thinks like a founder, combining analytical rigor with a deep curiosity for how healthcare delivery can be reimagined through emerging technology.

The essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Conduct primary and secondary research on healthcare market trends, regulatory landscapes, and emerging technologies (AI, digital health, connected care).
  • Plan and conduct discovery interviews with clinicians, administrators, patients, and healthcare technology leaders to identify unmet needs.
  • Synthesize qualitative and quantitative findings into actionable insights using structured frameworks (e.g., Jobs to Be Done, journey mapping).
  • Research potential partners including health systems, digital health startups, academic medical centers, and industry collaborators.
  • Participate in and help facilitate brainstorming and design thinking sessions to develop early-stage concepts.
  • Prepare internal documentation, opportunity assessments, and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations.
  • Contribute to strategic roadmapping for healthcare-focused innovation initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a Master's degree in any field (healthcare administration, public health, business, engineering, life sciences, or related field.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset: you take initiative, move fast, and are energized by building something from nothing.
  • Founder experience, startup involvement, or demonstrated history of launching new initiatives.
  • Familiarity with the U.S. healthcare ecosystem (providers, payers, regulatory environment).
  • Exposure to customer discovery methodologies, design thinking, or lean startup principles.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Passion for transforming real-world healthcare challenges using emerging technology.

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $16.90/hour and $22.75/hour; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including commissions based on achieving individual performance and/or sales metrics, incentive compensation and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these additional compensation and benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.

If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
